  • RSCA STAR Student and Teacher
Rock Springs Christian Academy is pleased to announce Meghan Bettis and Jan Mathis as STAR student and STAR teacher for the 2018 graduating class.  Meghan has attended RSCA since the sixth grade.  Her parents are Patrick and Meredith Bettis of Milner, Georgia.   Determined, dedicated, and driven are all words that describe Meghan.  During high school, Meghan has been on the tennis and volleyball teams, Beta club, and she serves as the pianist for chapel programs.  She has been involved in dance for thirteen years and has played the piano for eleven years.  Meghan is doing an internship with the Rock Springs Medical Clinic and works in the Rock Springs Learning Center in the mornings before school.  She has taken dual enrollment class with Georgia Military College since her sophomore year while attending Rock Springs. Meghan is interested in a medical career and will be attending the University of North Georgia after graduation to pursue a career as a Physical Therapist.  Mrs. Mathis said, “I had the privilege of having Meghan for both Advanced Algebra and Pre-Calculus. You just can’t say too many nice things about her. She’s the type of student every teacher wants in their classroom. Meghan has a natural math aptitude, which is always wonderful to discover about a student; but even better, she has a tremendous work ethic to go along with that. I appreciated her dependability and consistency in performance. In addition to academics, Meghan is a well-rounded student. She is a bit on the quiet side, but is always kind and helpful to other students. She is a tremendous role model to younger students through her Chapel leadership. They regularly see her using her dancing and piano talents for God’s glory. It is exciting to consider all the possibilities this young lady has in her future.”
The STAR teacher, Jan Mathis, is the Math Department Chair and has been teaching for 21 years with the past 3 years at RSCA.  Meghan said “I chose Mrs. Jan Mathis to be my STAR teacher simply because she possesses all of the qualities of a magnificent teacher. Mrs. Mathis taught me for two years, giving her all to the entire class and working with us one-on-one in order to comprehend and understand every concept. She puts the needs of others before her own and does not hesitate to answer any questions or be of any help. Her ability to instruct a variety of students and to make her lessons enjoyable is amazing. She is remarkably focused and is able to keep her students on task. Her whimsical personality adds to her style of teaching that helps her students retain information and enjoy learning.”
Congratulations to these two outstanding EAGLES!
